Session Outline

This session aims to build upon the key oral health messages:
Brush teeth for 2 minutes, twice a day. Spit don’t rinse.
Eat a healthy balance diet. Limit sugary food and drink to mealtimes only.
Visit the dentist regularly.
Tobacco and alcohol use increases your risk of mouth cancer.

Empower staff to impart and tailor oral health information for service users

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • List the key oral heath messages.
  • Recognise the importance of oral health within their role.
  • Signpost to relevant local services.
  • Support service users to improve their own oral health.
  • Disseminate oral health information to their colleagues and relevant partners.

Teaching & Learning Strategy:
This is an interactive session to enthuse participants with oral health.
Participants will leave the session with the knowledge and understanding of the importance of oral health. They will also gain the ability to incorporate this in to their specialist role.

Target Audience: Suitable for health visitor students.

Duration: 2.5 hours
