“Julia has given 14 years to the service, leading a team of tooth fairies and appearing in numerous regional and national publications.

“Over the years Julia has built up close links with local and national organisations and Oral Health Promotion teams – due to her excitement, approachability and generosity to share ideas!”

The Oral Health Promotion Team work in the local community to promote the importance of good oral health. This includes the three key messages:

1. Brush teeth twice a day for 2 minutes (spit, don’t rinse)

2. Eat a healthy balanced diet. Restrict sugars to mealtimes only.

3. Visit the dentist regularly.

The list of finalists was compiled by a judging panel, consisting of practitioners and members of various leading dental professional associations. This year’s awards saw entries from across the UK.

Carly Wood, Chair of the judging panel and editor of The Probe, said, “Year on year, the standard of entries gets higher and higher, and this year was no different. We’ve received a record number of entries, so being selected as a finalist is an immense achievement.”

Now in its 16th year, the awards showcase the best in the dental profession, and recognise the achievements of both teams and individuals.

The team was shortlisted for the Team of the Year – North category.

Their submission included:  “We are a dynamic team, bursting with innovative ideas that ensure we stay at the forefront of oral health promotion. We strive to tackle the inequalities in dental and oral health; working closely with front line staff, dental practices, schools, nutritionists, stop smoking services and anyone else who is relevant and wants to play!”

Julia Wilkinson said:

“We felt it was a huge honour to reach the finals as they had so many entries! I did not expect to win as we are such a small team. To win is amazing!!!!! It makes all our hard work so worthwhile.”
